Learn and Serve Alabama
Begin
THIS semester to make a difference in your community through participation
in Service Learning!
What
is Service Learning?
Service-learning
is youth involved in helping others, with a particular emphasis placed
on the learning that occurs through service. It is a method of teaching
that combines academic work with service to the community. Students
learn by doing through a clear application of skills and knowledge while
helping to meet real needs in the school or community.
Service Learning
is..
Holiday Hope
Chests Project, WAFF 48 Can-a-Thon, Youth Service Day, Red Cross Club,
helping soldiers in Iraq, peer tutoring, Adopt-a-Mile, recycling, care
packages for hospitals, cards and goodie bags for elderly, clean campus
campaigns, books for PACT parenting classes, recycling programs, fire
safety campaigns, traffic safety programs, puppet programs for mentally
handicapped, painting the caboose in the town park, Wetlands project,
place mats for nutrition centers, Veteran's recognition programs, musical
programs for the elderly, outdoor classroom experiences, and MANY other worth while student-driven projects!
President Service
Each year, hundreds
of President's Volunteer Service Awards are given out by the Volunteer
Center and the Learn and Serve Program. Awards may be given hours of
volunteer service in a year's time. The Volunteer Center is the certifying
agency and we will be happy to assist you in the process. Tracking forms
are available for you at the Volunteer Center. Hours may be earned in
a variety of ways through Volunteering for church, clubs, service learning
projects or any civic involvement. Adults, groups and individuals may
qualify now to receive the President's Volunteer Service Award, so contact
us for more information!
Lend-a-Hand
