Friend 2 Friend Mentoring

In response to one of the goals of the President's Summit, children are partnered with a caring adult mentor.

The Friend 2 Friend Mentoring Program is a partnership between the Volunteer Center of Morgan County and the Decatur, Hartselle City Schools and Decatur Youth Services.

What is a Mentor?

No matter who we are, or where we come from, we can each look back in our lives and point to a few special people who believed in us. A teacher, coach, a neighbor, the father, mother or grandparent of a schoolmate, someone, some adult we looked up to. A friend. A mentor.

A Mentor's Role

A mentor is any caring adult who makes an active, positive contribution to the life a child who is not his or her own. It is someone who has found ways to succeed in life and cares enough to pass those lessons along. A friend, a guide, a coach. Perhaps someone like you.

Friend 2 Friend Commitment

Friend 2 Friend requires volunteer mentors to commit to spend one hour per week or three hours per month with their mentee (student) for at least one school year. Mentors can choose their mentee's age group (K-12) or specific school to visit. All mentoring visits are held during the school day on school property. The day and time is set around the mentor's schedule.

We provide a required background screening and two-hour training course before matching mentors with a student.
